Autobianchi A112 Giovani [1973]

Translating to ‘young’ in Italian, the Giovani strived for just that: to deliver a fun, economical convertible vehicle to capture the younger side of the market. Designed and built by Pininfarina for Autobianchi with a parts box from their efficient A112 coupé and a standard Abarth 58hp engine, the Giovani remained a boxy one-off prototype, though its styling was particularly ahead of its time. With integrated plastic bumpers, a composite plastic body, analogue gauges and a trunk oddly accessed from the passenger seat, the vehicle presents a fine example of stripped-back, Spartan vehicle design and boasts a silhouette much more in tune with the compact coupés of the decade to follow.
