Capitol Records Building [1956]

Welton Becket

One of LA’s most iconic landmarks, Welton Becket and Associates designed the Capitol Records Building as the world’s first circular office tower. Notably the first height-limit building to be constructed in the area post-WWII, Becket’s design includes a 27m beacon spire that famously flashes H-O-L-L-Y-W-O-O-D in Morse code, right above the equally-renowned ‘CAPITAL RECORDS’ branded type. Home to the West Coast’s first major record label, the Capitol Records Building remains an icon within the industry and the sphere of modern architecture.
