Casa Butantã [1964]

Paulo Mendes da Rocha

Paulo Mendes da Rocha pioneered the design and construction of low cost concrete residences primarily in mid century Sao Paulo, with the two adjacent Butantã Houses representing a set of details typical of much of the architect’s work. Exposed concrete enters from the outside in revealing an open, light-filled plan and a muted timber-concrete palette.
