Congress Center and Bath [1966]

Max Schlup

Swiss architect Max Schlup has gained notoriety for his bold, uncompromising works of concrete and glass, and his Congress Center, an early work – perhaps still stands as an exemplar structure in his fiercely Modern portfolio. With a bold tower and a swooping triangulated form with setback glazing that opens to the street atop a slender colonnade, Schlup unwittingly created an icon of the modern city of Biel, an icon which – to this day – is known well beyond its city limits.
