Designtel - Hôtel du Lac Tunis, Raffaele Contigiani

Hôtel du Lac [1974]

Raffaele Contigiani

Built in the same vein as much of the Brutal, Soviet architecture of the time, Raffaele Contigiani’s design in Tunis borders the Mediterranean Sea and presents the form of an inverted, stepped pyramid of concrete. Reportedly thematically inspired by the architect’s pavilion work for the 1954 Zagreb exhibition, the Hotel was one of the first constructed following Tunisia’s Independence and is presently in a state of disrepair.
