Villa Spies [1969]

Staffan Berglund

Designed by Swedish architect Staffan Berglund for Danish airline magnate Simon Spies – this Villa’s construction is almost entirely out of plastic – with interiors by Jan Dranger and Johan Huldt of Stockholm. The magnate’s vocation is evident throughout and Spies reportedly wished for a residence that appeared as if it was within an aeroplane, above the clouds. Berglund specified a two-level circular plan to afford flexibility, a kitchen to the base and a device to lift a centred element on this floor to the ceiling – incorporating itself with the upper floor’s living and entertainment space.
