Alfa Romeo Carabo [1968]

Marcello Gandini/Bertone

A collaborative effort between the Italian manufacturer and the Bertone styling house, the Carabo (derived of Carabidae, as evoked by the vehicle’s stark green/orange coloration) deployed Marcelo Gandini’s wedge-shape principle used to eliminate the high-speed aerodynamic lift troubles of prior designs such as the Lamborghini Miura. Remaining a one-off, the Carabo nonetheless afforded a dramatic steering of the automotive design industry that was to encourage a multitude of landmark 20th century vehicles.
