Amphicar Model 770 [1961]

The world’s first mass-produced amphibious vehicle, the Amphicar was a single-variant, single-run attempt at combining on-ground and water transportation. Not a particularly high performance car or boat, the Amphicar had a Triumph 1147c engine which powered both the drivetrain and twin propellors mounted beneath the rear bumper. Well ingrained in popular culture with numerous film and photoshoot appearances (inclusive of this classic Slim Aarons capture) an Amphicar was also famously owned by then-President Lyndon B. Johnson who reportedly would drive guests unaware of the vehicle’s buoyancy into his property’s lake.
