The Swiss Expo of 1964 in Lausanne focused on projecting an image of a contemporary Switzerland, seeking to showcase a society infused with a new Modernism. For the Army Pavilion, the architects were reportedly inspired by a dog collar as a powerful national defence force motif, evident most profoundly by the oversized studded detailing to the façade.
