Carousel [1973]

Designed by American artist-industrial designer Elsie Crawford for Sintoform as part of an ‘Architectural Fibreglass’ collection, the Carousel planter-seat rotates seating around a hollow fibreglass core that provides for substantial above-ground planting. Specified broadly for large scale public and private applications inclusive of shopping centres, hotel lobbies and residences, Crawford’s imaginative use of volume and material to deliver bold aesthetics alongside profound functionality has resulted in her work still being sought after today.
