Diving Platform [1960]

João Batista Vilanova Artigas is considered one of Brazil’s seminal Modernist architects, with a body of work demonstrating an organic, almost-Wrightean approach to residential design before gradually developing into a more brutal, angular geometric play for larger public buildings and facilities such as this diving platform concept. With horizontals that seem to fold out from a shaved rectilinear prism and an entrance that follows suit, this is a design well aligned with the concrete-infatuated, bold geometry-driven designs of the time.
