A slender structure of steel and glass punctuated by bold neon signage, Gabor Lukacs and Stephen Gergely’s Frisco store in Punchbowl displayed a Miesian, gridded infatuation that referenced a great deal of their native Europe’s modernist cues whilst adapting them to the Australian landscape. With structures both individually and jointly penned, they often had Max Dupain document their work – largely regarded as one of the finest Australian photographers, whose meticulous compositions leant themselves well to such Modern architectural works.
