Itanhaém State School [1959]

João Batista Vilanova Artigas and Carlos Cascaldi

A municipality in the state of São Paul, Itanhaém’s state school was designed by one of Brazil’s most famed architects and demonstrates an angular design of triangulated concrete blades that enter the structure to delineate classroom spaces. These wall structures sit to a rigid grid and structurally function independent to that of the roof, allowing for ancillary spaces both inside and out to be defined by different extents of cover with deep overhangs providing cover to the horizontal facades.
