Revisiting gas station design in the 1950s was considered paramount to the ushering in of a new generation of design, vehicles, and, well, people. In this sense the Whitney Smith and Wayne Williams design for Mobil was not dissimilar in purpose to Arne Jacobsen’s Texaco work in terms of the creation of a new form to be used as a standard model for future stations alike. Situated Disneyland-adjacent in Anaheim, CA – this design presents stark single-post supported canopies and hanging gas pumps to complement.
