The Porsche Forschungsprojekt Langzeit Auto (FLA) was an extensive, in-house design project geared towards the production of a vehicle with an extended (three decade) lifespan in response to concerns with respect to the future of the industry. With a silhouette more aligned with Volkswagen offerings of the time, the FLA was designed to withstand the harshest of environments. Equipped with an aluminium skin, corrosion-resistant junctures and a modest rear-mounted engine block for maintenance, the study was later terminated due to concerns with respect to the non-affordability of such durability.
