Manhattan Apartment [1978]

Paul Rudolph

Imagery: Jeremy Jae

Paul Rudolph – famed for expansive concrete works and renderings often at a civic scale – kept an apartment in Manhattan that exposes a rare fineness with respect to his interior work. With an exaggerated, open stepped cornice to the ceiling facilitating services and a bookshelf overhead, cantilevered furniture boxes sail across the strip-lit floor, with circular cutouts and steel backrests providing playful detail to the seating arrangement.
