Designtel - Temple Street Parking Garage, Paul Rudolph

Temple Street Parking Garage [1963]

Paul Rudolph

A rare example of heritage-listed car park, Paul Rudolph’s civic work in New Haven was an integral component of a masterplan that strived to transform the city into a beacon of American modernity. An exercise in repetition and singular materiality (the structure is made entirely from in-situ concrete), Temple Street projects modernity through a sculptural application of its material with ramps expressed freely and columns that taper from ceilings and fall inwards from the primary facades.
