Designtel - Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

Wienermobile [2000]

Carl G. Mayer

Initially dreamed up by the nephew of company founder Oscar Mayer, the Wienermobile has become an American pop-culture icon since its debut in 1936. Carl G. Mayer conceptualised an oversized, rolling-advertisement of his uncle’s hot dog company to be driven by brand ambassadors referred to as ‘hotdoggers’. Undergoing a number of design revisions since its inception (including a 1958 refresh by industrial designer Brooks Stevens), the current Wienermobile is almost eight metres long and sites its fibreglass dog on a Chevrolet truck chassis.
