United States Science Pavilion [1962]

Minoru Yamasaki

Designed by Seattle-born Minoru Yamasaki (who would later go on to design the World Trade Centre), the United States Science Pavilion stood as a centrepiece of the 1962 Century 21 Expo which thematically strove to cast minds into the future through the progress of the present. Yamasaki designed the pavilion as a group of interconnected precast structures rotated around a reflecting pool, with a massive 33.5m five-arched ‘space-gothic’ (as branded by onlookers) tower to its front.
