Fusing the Brutalist canon with that of sacred architecture, Swiss architect Walter Förderer’s monolithically totemic St. Nicolas Church provides a blocky, weighty place of worship through layered concrete construction. With a gold-toned timber providing colour to the greyed interior, Förderer showcases the interaction of these two materials by interlocking fixed furnishings, recessing panels and creating formwork imprints into the concrete.
